Case Studies

CMS PRO-PM Compliance Monitoring

At MedStar Health, I supported a CMS patient-reported outcomes compliance initiative for total knee and hip replacements. I translated the measure requirements into a monitoring solution that gave leaders visibility into compliance gaps by hospital and surgeon and identified patients who still required follow-up. The outcome was earlier identification of missing information, more reliable preparation for CMS submission, and reduced risk of incomplete or inaccurate reporting.

CHG Treatment Compliance Monitoring

At MedStar Health, I developed a monitoring solution for CHG treatment compliance, a key infection-prevention practice used to reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections. The solution helped leaders identify where patients were not receiving treatment as expected and where follow-up was needed. The outcome was earlier visibility into compliance gaps, more targeted intervention, and reduced risk that missed prevention practices would contribute to avoidable infections.

Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injury Monitoring

At MedStar Health, I developed a monitoring solution for hospital-acquired pressure injuries that gave nursing and quality leaders visibility into both patient outcomes and compliance with key prevention practices. The solution helped teams identify where prevention processes were breaking down and focus follow-up on the areas of greatest risk. The outcome was earlier recognition of care gaps, more targeted improvement efforts, and stronger support for reducing avoidable pressure injuries.

C. difficile Prevention Monitoring

At MedStar Health, I developed a monitoring solution for C. difficile prevention that connected infection outcomes with key prevention practices. The solution helped infection-prevention and operational leaders identify where performance was slipping and focus attention on areas requiring follow-up. The outcome was more targeted action, improved visibility into infection risk, and support for sustaining a favorable C. difficile SIR for more than a year.

Postoperative Urinary Retention Intervention Evaluation

At Inova Health System, I evaluated a clinical intervention intended to reduce postoperative urinary retention following total knee and hip replacement surgery. I translated the clinical workflow into measurable indicators and analyzed performance before and after implementation. The outcome was an evidence-based assessment that helped leaders understand where the intervention was and was not working, identify gaps in bladder-scanning practices, and determine which measures required continued monitoring.
